Elevating The Way We Do Tree Care
As certified arborists, we specialize in cultivating, shaping, and supporting the overall care of trees. From landscape planning to bringing down large dead tree limbs, we ensure to collaborate with our clients. Our certifications allow us to diagnose and properly treat your trees, no matter the type.
Tree Removal
Removing trees can be a dangerous business, especially without proper tools. To safely and effectively remove the tree, our team has mastered our skills to intercept damage to your property with minimal noise. Once we have properly diagnosed the tree we utilize a variety of techniques to safely bring the tree down, minimize our mess and preserve the rest of the landscape. With each stump we avoid ripping out any roots of surrounding plants to avoid damaging them. Although tree removal may change your yard’s overall aesthetic, we provide a seamless transition by taking care of your property. Following the tree removal, we provide stump grinding to remove the eyesore, regrowth, and danger of a leftover stump. Since a leftover stump can produce regrowth, we will ensure that the entire tree is removed.
Tree Trimming and Pruning
When your trees prove to be problematic without needing to be fully removed, the Xanderbuilt team offers pruning and tree trimming services. If pruning is done improperly with the wrong tools and cut the wrong way, the tree will suffer. Our team of quality and certified arborists can give a proper diagnosis to give your tree its best chance. We utilize multiple different methods to trim/prune a tree including crown raising, layering back, crown thinning, dead wooding, lateral reduction, reduction shaping, and crown cleaning, each having their purpose and benefit.
Depending on the needs, here are a few tree pruning and trimming methods
Often used in both residential and commercial spaces, crown raising involves shaping the lower levels of branches to a desired height. Crown raising eliminates the liability of pedestrians or cars hitting them. Crown raising prevents the need for tree removal.
Layering back the trees in your yard can protect your house, vegetation, and your neighbors property from encroaching branches. As many animals take refuge in trees, having branches close to access points of your house can invite unwelcome guests. As the branches may already be in the way, you need a team to ensure the branches are removed safely and effectively.
Crown thinning is of utmost importance for the trees’ overall health, preventing future fungus growth and protecting it during high winds. By removing a portion of the interior branching that does not reach the outer canopy, crown thinning allows for proper air and light to penetrate the tree. Proper crown thinning creates the right amount of space to hinder wind sail in the event of high wind storms. If done wrong, it can lead to damage, which our team will gladly come and resolve 24/7, 365 days a week.
Dead or dying branches can pose a threat to the health of the tree or to the surrounding property or individuals in proximity. Removing deadwood 2 inches in diameter or larger will rid the possibility of dead limbs falling out of the tree. Additionally, many insects are attracted to rotted trees, causing a potential pest issue if not removed.
Crown cleaning, a combination of both thinning and deadwooding, that changes the aesthetic and safety of the tree. By removing dead limbs from the top, our team can shape the tree to allow it to get proper sunlight to the bottom and fend off diseases. For mature trees, this process is crucial for keeping them healthy and preventing heavy, deadweight limbs from falling.
As certified and trusted arborists, we do not recommend or provide tree topping as we do not believe it properly addresses the needs of larger tree species. Lateral reduction is provided for larger tree species by pruning a branch or branches back to a lower limb. The limb on that same branch then reduces the overall size by becoming the new top of the tree. Due to the precision and difficulty, our team has specialized certifications to perform lateral reduction, reducing degradation of the shape of the tree.
Reduction shape is used for ornamental pruning for smaller trees to maintain their size. During the dormant season, keeping the ornamental trees a proper proximity from the house through shaping allows them to bloom without being cramped.
Air Spading
Air spading, or “root collar excavations” address underground problems such as root issues improper planting, soil decompaction in the critical root zone, and more. As this is not a common practice, our certified arborists have the proper training to address these issues and save your trees from the roots up. With many trees growing in the urban Indiana soil the main roots are choked out by surface rooting called girdling roots. By exposing the roots with high-pressure air, we can address the unnoticed roots causing issues. Our team meticulously and surgically removes the roots to avoid the main root missing essential nutrients, which spread throughout the rest of the tree. The stifling of nutrients can cause the tree to weaken, making it susceptible to insects and diseases. If unaddressed, the trees can deteriorate. If you know your trees have not been diagnosed or investigated by professionals, we would love to help. This can be used a a preventative measure to tree removal.
Tree Support Systems
Due to improper maintenance or storm damage, sometimes tree limbs or the tree trunk can split or crack, making them a hazard to the home. To reinforce the structural soundness and remediate weak attachments, we implement tree support systems. After diagnosing your trees, we decide between two standard support systems, cabling and creating a brace.
We install a cable into the upper third of a canopy, the top layers, by connecting two or more trunks of the tree together. This practice dramatically improves the structural integrity of the tree. As it moves, the cable tightens, preventing the trunk from overextending itself and splitting.
Implementing a brace starts at the main trunk. By drilling through the cross section of the tree perpendicular to the split, then installing a steel rod the tree to heal around the brace and obstruct the split from re-opening.
Preconstruction Consulting
Overlooking trees in pre construction planning affects can destroy the roots or leave permanent damage, changing the health of your landscape. Some issues arise years later, making it expensive as a homeowner to correct it. Before building a home or structure, consulting our certified arborists can help when addressing existing trees. From removing trees properly or protecting the greenery, we can work alongside construction teams to make sure your new yard is beautiful.
